What’s on at the weekend? – 6, 7 October 2012

This weekend’s quieter than of late, but there are still things to do in town if you are looking to get out and about.  Try some Real Bread, unleash your inner artist, meet an author or get back to nature…

Real Bread Festival, Southbank Centre, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October 2012

Go along to the Southbank Centre this weekend for the Real Bread Festival.  As well as a wide range of stands showcasing delicious bread and bread-related products, there will be chefs demonstrating recipes and tutored breadmaking workshops.  Free.  More details here.

The Big Draw, various locations, until 31 October 2012

The Big Draw is a month-long festival organised by the Campaign for Drawing, which is taking place all over the UK throughout October.  Check the website for details of the hundreds of events and opportunities to get creative.  Free.  More details here.

Wimbledon Bookfest, 6-14 October 2012

This nine day festival features author events using venues in and around Wimbledon.  The children’s programme features famous names such as children’s author Michelle Paver and the Wombles (of course).  Tickets are available in advance and cost £7.50.  More details here.

Hedgerow Harvest, Natural History Museum, Sunday 7 October 2012

Head to the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Garden on Sunday to celebrate the diversity of life sustained by the UK’s hedgerows.  Watch a professional hedge-layer at work; discover the medicinal uses of hedgerow plants; find out what you can eat in a hedgerow; learn about dormice and insects that inhabit hedgerows; see live hedgehogs; and join a bug hunt.  Free.  More details here.
