What’s on in Half Term? – 24 October to 1 November 2015

This week it’s half term and there are loads of family workshops and activities to enjoy. Here’s our selection:

Michael Rosen’s Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake and Bad Things, Discover Children’s Story Centre, until April 2016

The new Michael Rosen exhibition is now open at the Discover Children’s Story Centre in Stratford. Why not go on a bear hunt this half term? Read our review here

Bloomsbury Festival until 25 October 2015

The theme of this year’s Bloomsbury Festival is Lighting Up. There are family activities all over the area with The Tiger That Came to Tea at the British Library, Down the Rabbit Hole workshops at the Foundling Museum, Peter Pan at the Curzon Cinema and much more. More details here

Half Term activities, V&A Museum of Childhood, Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2015

There are free drop in sessions for all ages taking place from 11am to 4pm every day in half term. Take part in the Big Draw all over the Museum or meet Mr Gerald the bow tie giraffe. Special workshops with artists and illustrators are also available for children aged 5 to 12 (£5 per child). More details here

Create and Make: Sky’s the limit, London Design Museum, 1pm to 4pm, Sunday 25 October 2015

The Design Museum has Create and Make workshops on the last Sunday of every month. This month you can design your own rooftop garden, playground or secret place in a 3D model-making workshop. Free with museum entry (£13 adult, £6.50 child aged 6 to 15), materials provided. More details here

Extraordinary Owls, Horniman Museum, Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October 2015

Among the special sessions the Horniman has organised for half term, you can spend a fun family session finding out about owls and dissecting an owl pellet. There are four sessions each day taking place between 11am and 4pm. While you’re there look out for the free family art sessions inspired by autumn and the Mexican Day of the Dead. More details here

Glass Delusions (24 October)/Life Under the Waves (26, 27, 29 to 31 October)/The Deep Blue Sea (28 October), Grant Museum of Zoology

The Grant Museum has a full programme of events to keep kids entertained in half term. You can be inspired by the Museum’s glass sponges and other marine animals to create your own piece of art, go under the waves to discover the amazing animal specimens that make the sea their home, or have a go at printing and drawing with a museum artist to help create a giant seascape scene. Family Activity – Lights and Lanterns, Severndroog Castle, Greenwich, 10.30am to 12pm, Sunday 1 November 2015

Family activities at Severndroog Castle on 1 November include creative arts and storytelling. Admission costs £2.50 per person and includes a visit to the viewing platform. More details here
