Diwali Festival, Trafalgar Square, 2pm to 7 pm, Sunday 27 October 2013
Celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, in Trafalgar Square this weekend. There will be live music, food and drink stalls and children’s activities. Free. More details here.
Family activities, British Museum, every weekend and during half term
The British Museum’s Samsung Digital Discovery Centre hosts free family activities every weekend. This week try a photography mystery trail on Saturday (11.30am) or make your own secret code on Sunday (11.30am). During half term there’s a daily Myths, Music and Mountains session (11am to 4pm) in the Great Court, exploring the myths, legends and meanings of gold in ancient Colombia. Free. More details here.
Family activities, Discover Children’s Story Centre, this weekend and during half term
Join in Big Draw Day at Discover. Tomorrow’s World on Saturday 26 Ocotber features futuristic space themed drawing. Sessions take place from 12.30pm to 4pm. The 3.30pm to 4pm session is suitable for all ages (the rest are aimed at children aged 4+). On Sunday at 12.30pm there’s an arts and craft session for 2 to 4 year olds inspired by the work of Eric Carle (The Very Hungry Caterpillar). During half term there are morning and afternoon sessions based on popular stories including Meg and Mog, Q Pootle 5 and Julia Donaldson’s Room on the Broom. Horniman Halloween Fair, Horniman Museum, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October 2013
Horniman Museum and Gardens hosts a Halloween Fair this weekend with spooky trails, a special arts and crafts market, Bandstand fun and some Halloween-themed food. Go along dressed in your favourite Halloween costume. Free. More details here.
Montessori for Families, Museum of Childhood, Sunday 27 October 11am to 4pm and Heroes and Sheroes, during half term
Want to learn some fun, creative and useful techniques to use at home to help your child’s learning? Head to the Museum of Childhood on Sunday for a practical workshop led by Montessori educators. Free, just drop in. During half term the Museum is also running daily Heroes and Sheroes sessions featuring arts and crafts and storytelling, all on a superhero theme. Free. More details here.
