Lots of lights, celebrations and the beginning of Christmas festivals this weekend…

Lord Mayor’s Show, 11am Saturday 9 November 2013

Head into the City to witness the annual Lord Mayor’s Show this Saturday. The procession, which dates back over 700 years and features the Lord Mayor in his State Coach accompanied by a cavalcade of floats, takes place between Bank and Aldwych from 11am until about 2.30pm. There will be a fireworks display between Waterloo and Blackfriars bridges at 5pm. Free. More details here.

Diwali Celebrations, National Maritime Museum, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 9 November 2013

Celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich on Saturday and discover how trade by sea brought people, ideas and culture from Asia to Britain. There will be workshops, storytelling and activities for all the family, followed by an outdoor lantern parade and dancing to the Bollywood Brass Band. Free. More details here.

Christmas Lights in Regent Street, Saturday 9 November 2013

Regent Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday for the annual ceremony to switch on its Christmas lights. There will be a fashion show from 3pm, with the lights due to be switched on at approximately 7pm. Live music will be provided by Leona Lewis, Eliza Doolittle, Passenger, Melanie C and Emma Bunton. Meet a Real-Life Rudolf, 12pm to 4pm, Saturday 9 November 2013

Visit Covent Garden every Saturday from now until Christmas to meet a real-life Rudolf. The reindeer will be on the East Piazza, where children can hand-feed them, pet them, and have their photo taken. Free. More details here.
