What’s on at the weekend? – 9, 10 August 2014

There’s not a huge amount to excite in London this weekend which is probably no bad thing given the first bad weather warnings of the summer. Still, if you are looking for entertainment there’s a whole weekend of cycling fun, a cow-themed music festival (yes, really) and lots of children’s theatre to choose from…

Prudential Ride London, various events, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August 2014

Prudential Ride London is back this weekend. There will be a family event on Saturday, offering the chance for cyclists of all ages to ride along ten-miles of traffic-free London roads from 9am to 4pm, stopping off at five Festival Zones. Participation is free, but registering in advance is preferable. In the evening there will be youth races and the professional women’s race. Sunday sees top handcyclists compete in the handcycle race, while 24,000 amateurs will set off on the 100 mile London-Surrey 100. The highlight of the weekend is the Classic race on Sunday afternoon – a professional race featuring Sir Bradley Wiggins. Free to spectate. More details here

Cowfest, Spitalfields City Farm, 10am to 5pm, Sunday 10 August 2014

Head to Cowfest to find out all about cows, try some delicious dairy products and enjoy an afternoon of live entertainment at this unique “moosic” festival. Free. More details here

Family theatre, various times and venues

If you need to spend some time indoors this weekend why not try one of the great children’s theatre productions currently showing in London. Choose from classics such as The Tiger Who Came to Tea, The Elephantom, Aliens Love Underpants and What the Ladybird Heard
