The Cultural Olympiad continues apace this week, with a myriad of events including the Big Dance festival at locations across the capital.  Elsewhere, check out the Hampton Court Flower Show and a new James Bond exhibition at the Barbican Centre…

The Big Dance, various locations, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July 2012

Big Dance festival 2012 is taking place from 7 – 15 July 2012 at various locations across London as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.  Details of performances, family festivals and other events taking place, most of which are free, can be found here.  Participating venues include the Horniman Museum (Forest Hill), Kensington Gardens, Old Royal Naval College (Greenwich), Granary Square (King’s Cross), Southbank Centre, London Fields, Southwark Park, Geffrye Museum (Hoxton), Peckham Square, Kilburn Grange Park and many more.

Urban Actions, King’s Cross, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July 2012

The King’s Cross neighbourhood will come alive from 6-8 July with a series of ‘Urban Actions’ aimed to improve the city.  Part of the London Festival of Architecture 2012, this programme invites visitors to follow a trail of actions and discover the past and present of this ever-changing part of London.

From the transformation of a petrol station, an urban picnic, and an imagination playground, to dance performances by Sadler’s Wells, there will be plenty to do this weekend in King’s Cross.  Free.  More details here.

Designing 007: Fifty Years of Bond Style, Barbican Centre, until 5 September 2012

The Barbican’s new exhibition celebrates the designs behind fifty years of Bond films.  From Bond’s famous gadgets and his adversaries’ weapons to the costumes that made style icons of “Bond girls” over the years, all manner of 007-related paraphernalia will be on display.  Tickets cost £12 standard, £10 concessions, £8 under 16s.  More details here.

The Trojan Horse, Steam Industry Free Theatre, The Scoop at More London, Thursdays to Sundays until 5 August 2012, 6.30pm

Part of the Cultural Olympiad celebrating London 2012, The Trojan Horse is packed with toe-tapping songs, ingenious puppets, comedy and adventure – promising fun for all the family! Suitable for all ages.  Free.  More details here.

RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July 2012

The annual Hampton Court Flower Show draws to a close this weekend.  Under 16s go free and an array of children’s activities will take place throughout the weekend – including interactive art workshops, face painting, balloon modelling, a scarecrow competition, children’s trail and more. Free for under 16s, Adults £32.50 (all day), £20 (afternoon).  More details here.
