Barbican Shakespeare weekender, Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March 2016

It’s the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and the City of London is celebrating with a series of events. The Barbican Foyers will be taken over on Saturday and Sunday by a whole range of workshops and performances celebrating the Bard. Look out for stage fighting demonstrations, badge and T-shirt making, a Shakespearean insult wall, RSC dressing up box, Shakespeare bingo, a karaoke glitter party and more. Free. Shakespeare Son et Lumiere, Guildhall Yard, 6.45 to 8.15pm, Saturday 5 March 2016

On Saturday evening the Guildhall will be illuminated with a 3D sound and light show. The show lasts 20 minutes (on a loop) and is free. More details here

The Big Write 2016, Discover Centre Stratford, until 11 March 2016

The Discover Children’s Story Centre is hosting The Big Write festival this week. There are readings, workshops and book signings featuring top children’s authors and illustrators. Admission costs £6 (adults), £5.50 (children over 2), £1.50 (one year olds). More details here

A Great Big Cuddle, Stratford Library, 11am to 1pm, Saturday 5 March 2016

Children’s author Michael Rosen joins Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell to celebrate their first picture book together, ‘A Great Big Cuddle’, as part of Discover Story Centre’s The Big Write 2016. £4. More details here

SPINE Festival, libraries across London, Saturday 5 March 2016

SPINE Festival returns this weekend to celebrate arts and literature across London libraries. There are lots of free activities and events in local libraries across London this weekend. By way of example you can meet children’s author Guy Bass at Camberwell on Saturday (free but ticketed).
