What’s on at the weekend? – 5, 6 January 2013

There’s not much new happening in London this weekend, with many of the seasonal activities drawing to a close instead.  With that in mind, why not say farewell to Christmas at the Geffrye, get your skates on for the last time this winter, catch an exhibition or go to see a pantomime while you still can…

Farewell to Christmas, Geffrye Museum, 3.30pm to 5pm, Sunday 6 January 2013

The Geffrye Museum hosts its annual Farewell to Christmas celebration in the Museum garden on Sunday afternoon. Watch the traditional burning of the holly and the ivy, with carol singing, stories about Epiphany and a taste of mulled wine and Twelfth Night cake. Free. More details here.

Last chance to see…

Ice Rinks, various locations around London, until 6 January 2013

After this weekend many of the temporary ice rinks set up around London for the festive season will close.  Get your skates on at the Natural History Museum, Somerset House, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, Westfield Shepherd’s Bush, Westfield Stratford City, Tower of London and the London Eye. Ticket prices vary, see websites for details.

Pantomime, various locations around London, until this weekend

If you didn’t make it to a Panto over the Christmas period (see our review of the great panto we went to last week here), the following shows draw to a close this weekend. Try Dick Wittington in Hackney, Aladdin at the O2, Cinderella in Catford, Peter Pan in Bromley, Robin Hood in Greenwich and Cinderella in Hammersmith. Ticket prices vary, see websites for details.

The Body Adorned: Dressing London, Horniman Museum, until 6 January 2013

Head down to the Horniman Museum to catch the final weekend of The Body Adorned: Dressing London exhibition.  Explore how body adornment has become part of London life across times and cultures. Free. More details here.

Cabaret Mechanical Theatre, Space Station Sixty-Five, East Dulwich, 11am to 6pm, until 6 January 2013

It’s your last chance this weekend to catch the range of wacky automata at the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre exhibition in East Dulwich. Free, but a small number of machines are coin-operated (10p to 50p). More details here.
