It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday – if you’re looking for something different from the usual lunch or afternoon tea, why not try going behind the scenes at the Opera, some Community Music, or a feast of flowers…

Family Sunday, Royal Opera House, 12pm to 4pm, Sunday 30 March 2014

Family Sundays are a new regular event for families to explore the Royal Opera House, its artists and the world of opera and ballet. There will be creative and practical activities for all the family, as well as space to relax and enjoy live music in an informal setting. Activities may include interactive singing or dance sessions, informal performances from Royal Ballet dancers, make-up or stage combat demonstrations and backstage tours. Suitable for children aged six and over. Younger children are welcome. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children, advance booking advised. More details here.

Community Music Day, Horniman Museum, 12pm to 5pm, Sunday 30 March 2014

Try the Horniman Museum this weekend for a day of music and dance performances, including African dance and drumming, jazz and classical concerts, Balinese Gamelan workshops, a capella singing and more. Free. More details here.

Florimania, Hampton Court Palace, 10am to 4.30pm, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March 2014

Hampton Court Palace’s annual extravaganza of flower displays starts this week inspired by the royal courts of George I and George II. Florimania is included in palace admission ticket. Members go free. More details here.
