The post-Christmas slump continues in terms of what’s on at the moment – it’s been a quiet month. Unless you are already heading to a party to celebrate Burns’ Night or Australia Day this weekend, here are a few other suggestions for things to do with the kids…

Falconry Display, Somerset House, 12pm to 3pm, Saturday 25 January 2014

In celebration of the current Isabella Blow exhibition, Somerset House explores her passion for the countryside and birds of prey with a falconry display this Saturday. Go along to see the Hawking Centre’s team of hawks, eagles and falcons. There will also be two aerial demonstrations detailing the art of falconry, where the birds will swoop across the famous courtyard. Free. More details here.

Walk London, Winter Wanders, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January 2014

It’s the Walk London Winter Wanders weekend, with over 30 free led walks to join around London. This Transport for London funded project showcases some of the best walks in London and is open to everyone. All walks are designed to be away from traffic and connect some of London’s best attractions, parks, woodland, rivers, canals and open spaces. Free. More details here.

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, various locations, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January 2014

Get counting with the kids this weekend as the RSPB’s annual Big Garden Birdwatch takes place. The idea is to spend an hour spotting the birds and other wildlife in your garden and send the results to the RSPB.
