What’s on at the weekend? – 24, 25 March 2012

Every week babydaytripper highlights events and activities that are happening in London at the weekend.  This weekend we’ve got new exhibitions at the Horniman and Geffrye Museums, Marilyn Monroe, a designer sample sale and contemporary graphic art…

The Body Adorned, Horniman Museum, Saturday 24 March 2012 to 6 January 2013

Head to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill to see its latest exhibition, The Body Adorned: Dressing London, which looks at influences on London dress in the past and explores body adornment in modern day London.  Events are taking place at the Museum from 12 pm to 4 pm this Saturday to celebrate the opening of the exhibition.  Admission free.  See here for more details and look out for babydaytripper’s review of the Horniman Museum next week.

At Home with the World, Geffrye Museum, 20 March 2012 to 9 September 2012

As London prepares to welcome the world to the Olympic Games, the Geffrye Museum’s latest exhibition asks “How English are our homes?”.  The Geffrye’s “At Home with the World” exhibition considers the extent to which many of the familiar objects in our homes today have either come from distant lands or been influenced by other cultures.  Admission free.  See here for more details and here for babydaytripper’s review of the Geffyre Museum, Hoxton, one of our favourite days out.

Marilyn, Getty Images Gallery, Eastcastle Street (5 March to 23 May 2012), Westfield Stratford City (23 March to 3 June 2012)

The Getty Images Gallery is currently hosting Marilyn, an exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s death.  Original dresses and costumes worn by the star are on display alongside iconic photographs at the Eastcastle Street Gallery (Oxford Circus).  A smaller exhibition of photographs is also taking place at Getty Images Gallery in Westfield Stratford City.  Admission free.  See here for more details and here for babydaytripper’s review of Westfield Stratford City.
