This weekend visit an enchanted wood, a winter wonderland, a Christmas fair or, for something completely different, the first exhibition examining Turner’s fascination with the sea…

Enchanted Woodland, Syon Park, 5pm to 9pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until 8 December 2013

Syon Park’s Enchanted Woodland is back again from Friday 22 November. An illuminated trail has been laid out through the Gardens and Arboretum, around the Eighteenth Century lake and finishes at the Great Conservatory. Hot food and drinks are available every night. Tickets cost £7 (adults) and £3 (children). More details here.

Turner and the Sea, National Maritime Museum, until 21 April 2014

The National Maritime Museum’s latest offering is the first full-scale examination of J.M.W Turner’s lifelong fascination with the sea. There are 120 pieces on display, including some of the most celebrated paintings of the artist’s long career, alongside works by other major British and European artists. Tickets cost £9 (adults), £4.50 (children aged 5 to 15), under 5s free. More details here.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, 10am to 10pm every day until 5 January 2013

Winter Wonderland returns to Hyde Park this weekend. It’s free to enter, but many of the attractions require tickets (book in advance). There is a Christmas market, Victorian bandstand, funfair, giant wheel, ice rink, Santa Land, Magical Ice Kingdom, Zippos Circus and Bavarian Village offering food, drink and live music. Santa’s Grotto is free and each child will receive a gift – arrive early to avoid long queues. For more details and to book tickets click here.

Hampstead Christmas Fair, 12pm to 5pm Sunday 24 November 2013

Go along to Hampstead High Street on Sunday to see the Christmas lights being switched on by a mystery celebrity. There is a free screening at the Hampstead Everyman of the Pixar film ‘UP’ at 10.30am (first come first served).There will be live music, fire-eaters, circus acts, a funfair, a raffle and a balloon race (in aid of the Amy Winehouse Foundation), a treasure hunt, Santa’s Grotto, reindeer, birds of prey, street music, face painting and hot and cold international food and stalls.
