Family Carols, St Paul’s Cathedral, 1pm, Saturday 22 December 2012

St Paul’s Cathedral is holding a Family Carols service on Saturday.  Enjoy your Christmas favourites, sung by chamber choir, Cantate, at this 45 minute service.  Free, unticketed, “children especially welcome”. More details here.

Real Food Christmas Market, Southbank Centre, 20-23 December 2012

For last minute Christmas goodies, why not head to the Southbank Centre’s Real Food Christmas Market this weekend.  You can buy mince pies, mulled wine, cheeses, chutneys, charcuterie and all manner of traditional and non-traditional festive bites, ingredients and gifts. More details here.

Christmas Holiday Activities, Science Museum, 22 to 31 December 2012 (except 24 to 26 December)

Looking for something to do next week?  The Science Museum has a packed schedule of events planned for the school holidays.  Why not try Festive Physics, where you can find out why crackers bang and whether reindeers could really fly (5 years and over).  Go to the Snow and Tell workshop to find out about snow and make and decorate a snowflake (5 years and over) or enjoy some storytelling with the lifetime of a star (7 years and over).  There are also screenings of Santa vs. the Snowman in 3D at the IMAX theatre.  All sessions free, tickets for film screenings cost £5.  More details here.

Charity Pantomime Horse Race, Greenwich, 1pm, Sunday 23 December 2012

The 3rd Annual Greenwich Charity Pantomime Horse Race, in Aid of Demelza Children’s Hospice, takes place on Sunday. See 20 pantomime horses and some other unusual characters racing around the backstreets of Greenwich.  Turn up early for a visit by Father Christmas, face painting and more. More details here.

Christmas Crafts and Seasonal Stories, Museum of Childhood, 22, 23, 26 to 31 December 2012

Pop along to the Museum of Childhood this weekend (or between Christmas and New Year) to make seasonal crackers, retro decorations and more.  Suitable for all ages. Free. More details here.
