Dulwich Winterlights, from 6pm, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December 2016

Dulwich Picture Gallery’s illuminated winter gardens draw to a close this weekend. See an evening showing of the Gallery’s Van de Velde exhibition, explore the illuminated gardens, enjoy choirs, storytelling and live entertainment, visit the Christmas market and pick up some street food. The Muppets Christmas Carol, Picturehouse Cinemas Kids’ Club, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December 2016

Let the kids experience Christmas past with a trip to see classic Christmas film The Muppets Christmas Carol this weekend. Picturehouse Cinemas across London have Kids Club showings on Saturday and Sunday morning. Tickets cost £2 each. More details here

Ready Steady Colour’s Christmas Feast!, Discover Children’s Story Centre, until 23 December 2016

Visit Discover this week to see A Line Art’s festive show, Ready Steady Colour’s Christmas Feast! Step into a pop-up restaurant and colour in your dinner while the staff entertain you with stories, comedy and music suitable for over 3s. Santa’s Lego Workshop, Covent Garden, until 29 December 2016

Covent Garden’s Christmas lights are always worth a look. Don’t miss this year’s contribution from Lego – a giant Santa’s workshop with more than 700,000 bricks. Free. More details here

Christmas Past, Geffrye Museum, until 8 January 2017

Every year the Geffrye Museum decorates its period rooms to reflect festive traditions from the past 400 years. There is a trail for children to help them spot the different presents, decorations, food and entertainment enjoyed at Christmas through the years. Free. More details here

Sutton House Christmas Market, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December 2016

Sutton House in Hackney has Christmas Markets, a Surreal Santa’s Sleigh and playful pantomime experiences. Admission costs £5.50 (adults) or £2.75 (child). Free for under 5s and National Trust Members. More details here

Christmas at Kew Gardens, 5pm to 10pm, selected dates until 2 January 2016

Head to Kew to see its illuminated evening trail winding through the gardens with brightly coloured laser beams dancing over water, a Tunnel of Lights, scented Fire Garden and fairy-tale avenues of flora. There’s also Santa, vintage rides, Christmas gifts and traditional festive food and drink. Tickets cost £18 (adult) or £10 (children over 4), off peak prices and prices including parking are also available. More details here
