What’s on at the weekend? – 16, 17 June 2012

If you are looking for family-friendly activities to celebrate Father’s Day this weekend, here are some highlights of what’s on in London – and who knows, it might not even rain…

Trooping the Colour, Horseguards Parade/The Mall/Buckingham Palace, 10am to 1pm, Saturday 16 June 2012

You’d be forgiven for thinking the Queen deserves a rest after the recent Jubilee celebrations. But no, this weekend the Queen’s official birthday will be celebrated at the Trooping the Colour ceremony on Horseguards Parade.  The Queen will receive the Royal Salute and inspect the troops before returning in her carriage to Buckingham Palace, where she and members of the Royal Family will witness an RAF fly past at approximately 1pm.  More details here.

World City Music Village, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, 1pm to 9pm, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June 2012

After the opening of the World City Music Village festival at the Horniman Museum last weekend, this weekend it’s Clissold Park’s turn to host the festival’s finale.  With a whole host of music on offer, take along your picnic (and your waterproofs?) to join in the family fun.  Free.  More details here.

Motorexpo, Canary Wharf, from 10am to 6pm on Saturday 16 June and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday 17 June 2012

Motorexpo returns to Canary Wharf this week for its 17th annual UK event.  Head along to check out the latest vehicles from many of the world’s leading motor manufacturers, which will be positioned throughout the indoor and outdoor public spaces of the Canary Wharf estate.  More details here.

Henry Moore: Late, Large Forms, Gagosian Gallery, Britannia Street WC1, until 18 August 2012

Henry Moore is famous for his large-scale sculptures which grace public spaces across Britain and 38 other countries in the world.  A new exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in London’s King’s Cross displays some of these mammoth outdoor sculptures in an indoor gallery for the first time.  Free. More details here.

Liberty Pop-up shop, Westfield Stratford City

World-famous West End department store Liberty has opened its first outpost in Westfield Stratford City, complete with two Queen’s guards.  Pop in and you’ll find classic Liberty florals and some of Liberty’s 2012 collaborations from Dr Martens, Barbour and Nike. More details here.
