What’s on at the weekend? – 15, 16 September 2012

The Paralympic Games may be over, but don’t be disappointed as there’s still lots to see and do in town this weekend – from a River Race to a Jazz Festival, via Hide and Seek…

Great River Race, Saturday 15 September 2012

The Great River Race, London’s river marathon involving more than 300 boat crews, takes place on Saturday.  The race starts at the Millwall Slipway opposite the Docklands Sailing Centre and ends in Ham, Richmond.  Expect to see the lead boats pass Tower Bridge at approximately 11.15am.  The crews, many in fancy dress and racing a whole array of exotic boats alongside the more traditional ones, should reach the finishing line in Richmond at around 1.30pm. Spectate for free along the Thames in Central London. More details here.

Hide and Seek Festival, Southbank Centre, 14 to 16 September 2012

Go along to the Southbank Centre on 14, 15 and 16 September for a weekend of play for adults and families alike. The Clore Ballroom will be filled with drop-in fun combining games with other art forms: balls that make sounds, lights that watch you move, custard that needs punching, boxes that need stacking and restacking, giant birds that just want a giant nest to rest in. Plus there’ll be scheduled games throughout: deceptive tours, frozen gargoyles, performances and more. Some sessions free, others ticketed – see website for details.  More details here.

Head down to the Lee Valley Summer Wildlife Carnival this Saturday for live music and dance performances, family activities, guided tours, community stalls and plenty of nature and wildlife to discover.  Free.  More details here.
