The Big Wild Rumpus, Unicorn Theatre, 11am, Saturday 13 June 2015

The Big Wild Rumpus is taking place across the country on Saturday to celebrate the much-loved book, Where the Wild Things Are. In London, meet at the Unicorn Theatre at 11am to read the book aloud together, led by Evelyn Adams and Charly Webber. The reading will last approximately 25 minutes and will be followed by free Crown Crafts and Monster Mess events in the foyer. Free. More details here

Trooping the Colour, Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade, 10am, Saturday 13 June 2015

The annual Trooping the Colour ceremony to mark the Queen’s official birthday takes place this weekend. Starting at 10am, the troops parade from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade and back again, followed by a fly past at 1pm. Free. More details here

Slugs, Bugs and Slime, Discover Children’s Story Centre, Saturdays and Sundays in June 2015

Discover has a month of weekend activities relating to bugs, worms, slugs and other small creatures. You can join a Story Builder on a Bug Hunt with magnifying glasses in the garden, make up a batch of goo and listen to Julia Donaldson’s Superworm. Activities included in admission price (£5 per adult/child, under 2s free). More details here

GrandFest, Hoxton Square, 11am to 6pm, Saturday 13 June 2015

There’s a one-day festival taking place in Hoxton Square on Saturday, organised by the Royal Voluntary Service. There will be food and drink stalls, live music, a pop-up shop and performances. There will also be master classes from Grand Makers (older people willing to share their talents) in traditional skills such as baking, home brewing, preserve-making and crocheting at various local venues (pre-book).
