What’s on at the weekend? – 13, 14 January 2018

January always seems to be the longest and most uneventful month of the year. It really doesn’t help that there’s not much on after all the excitement of December. Despite that, we’ve tracked down four fun ideas to brighten up your weekend – proof, if we need it, that London is always open!

Whitechapel Gallery Family Day, 12pm to 4pm on Saturday 13 January 2018

Enjoy this free family day with artists Melanie King and Almudena Romero. Learn about alternative photography processes, try out cyanotype printing, experiment with pinhole techniques and visit a pop-up dark room.

Joey’s Circus, Puppet Theatre Barge, Little Venice, until 18 March 2018

Find out what happens to Joey the Clown when he brings the circus to town. Will he and Dog Toby stop it being closed down by The Beadle? Tickets for Joey’s Circus cost £12 for adults, £8.50 for kids.

Last-minute Ice Skating, until Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January 2018

It’s your last chance to skate on Saturday at London’s Skylight Rooftop ice rink in Tobacco Dock. You can still skate in the picturesque surroundings of Somerset House until Sunday.

Family activities, V&A Museum of Childhood

The Museum of Childhood is always a safe bet for a free weekend workshop or two. This weekend you can drop in for the usual interactive storytelling, arts and crafts, and play sessions on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday there’s also a Money Smart Kids workshop for children aged 8 and under to start to learn about money matters (free, pre-booking required).
