Butterflies in the Glasshouse, RHS Garden Wisley, 10am to 4pm, until 24 February 2013
Experience a touch of springtime at RHS Garden Wisley’s Glasshouse from this Saturday. Amongst the tropical plants and palms you will find exotic butterflies fluttering about – a world away from the cold weather outside. Entry is included in the Garden’s normal admission price (£10.50 for adults, £4.50 for children, RHS Members free). More details here.
London Ice Sculpting Festival, Canary Wharf, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 January 2013
This weekend the London Ice Sculpting Festival is taking place in Canary Wharf. The sculptors’, who come from all over the world, will create sculptures with the theme “The Wonders of the Universe and Infinity”. Events include ice carving masterclasses, a snow-filled Snowpit, an interactive Ice Graffiti Wall, Ice Chess, a Winter Market and a special Northern Lights Laser Show. Free entry. More details here.
A Treasured Collection, V&A Museum of Childhood, until 1 September 2013
The V&A Museum of Childhood’s latest exhibition features significant objects, memories and keepsakes, collected by private individuals to help preserve memories and provide a personal history for future generations. The exhibition features ‘mini museums’ made with adults and children. Their personal ‘enshrined’ stories provide an insight into the private art of collecting. The exhibition also features an installation by Jasleen Kaur who creates objects that cross cultural boundaries and subvert traditional notions of use and a ‘sound collection’ by beat boxer Jason Singh. The House Where Winter Lives, Discover Children’s Story Centre, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 January 2013
If you didn’t already check out the storytelling adventure The House Where Winter Lives at Stratford’s Discover Children’s Story Centre then this weekend is your last chance. Explore the magic and mystery of winter in an immersive and interactive storytelling performance aimed at children aged 3 to 6 years old. Admission costs £8 for adults, £6 for children, admission includes entry into the rest of the Discover Centre. More details here.
