What’s on at the weekend? – 12, 13 April 2014

It’s the London Marathon on Sunday, but if you’re not participating or spectating, here’s what else is on for the family this weekend…Charlie’s Chocolate Adventure, Kew Gardens, until 21 April 2014

Easter at Kew is all about celebrating 50 years of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There are loads of Wonka-themed activities in partnership with the Roald Dahl story centre. Try the Whipple-scrumptious plant hunt, Revolting Rhymes session or visit the Great Glass Lift. Tickets required for entry to Kew Gardens, some activities attract an additional admission fee. Rubbish, Southbank Centre, until 21 April 2014

Looking for something different for the Easter holidays? Leading children’s theatre company Theatre-Rites presents Rubbish, a production where four excavators explore the unexpected value of discarded objects. What will emerge from a bag full of sludge and what could possibly happen when they find a lost glove? Tickets cost £12 (adult) and £6 (children). Suitable for ages 5 and over. More details here.

Crafty Fox Market, Bussey Building, Peckham, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April 2014

Head to Peckham this weekend to search out handmade art and design at the Crafty Fox Market. There will be stalls, craft workshops, DJs and drinks. There are craft workshops that are suitable for all ages and include making bunting and a cut and paste chair. Free. More details here.

Easter Egg-Laying Animals, Grant Museum of Zoology (UCL), 1pm to 4.30pm, until 16 April 2014

For the Easter holidays, the Grant Museum is exploring the wonderful world of eggy animals. From penguins to platypuses, sharks to snails and bullfrogs to butterflies, a range of specimen-based games and activities investigate the best shells and spawn. Drop in between 1pm and 4.30pm. Free. World War I Craft Session, Barbican Library, 11am, Saturday 12 April 2014

Take part in an art and craft session and create a selection of medals, animals and tanks from the First World War.  All materials provided, the event is suitable for children aged 5+. Free. More details here.
