Picturehouse Cinemas: Toddler Time Weekly Film Club

Picturehouse Cinemas have long been popular with those in the know for their weekly Big Scream film screenings for parents and babies under 12 months.  We went along this week to try out their new film club, Toddler Time, designed to provide little ones with their first taste of the big screen…

Toddler Time is a new film club taking place one daytime morning a week at participating Picturehouse Cinemas. The concept is straightforward: a half hour screening of programmes suitable for pre-school children (currently Peppa Pig) to let toddlers experience the excitement and ambience of visiting the cinema.

We went to the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton, which was well-equipped with booster seats so that your toddler doesn’t have to sit on your knee.  There was unexpected hush throughout the screening, as the universally popular Peppa projected onto a big screen kept the toddler audience glued to its seat.  MJ’s only complaint about the whole outing was that he didn’t want the screening to end (although probably half an hour was about right for the parents and carers in attendance).

Interest rating

Definitely one to try if you’ve got a Picturehouse Cinema near to where you live.  Participating London branches are: Brixton, Clapham, Greenwich, Hackney, Stratford East.  Elsewhere in the country: Aberdeen, Bath, Brighton, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Henley, Liverpool, Norwich, Oxford, Southampton, Stratford-upon-Avon, York.

Admission cost

Admission costs £3 for toddler members (membership is free), accompanying parents are admitted free of charge. Adult and child matinee prices apply to non-members.  Children under 12 months are admitted free of charge.

Picturehouse Cinemas have baby changing facilities, booster seats, buggy parking and high chairs in the cafés where available.
