Cabaret Mechanical Theatre at Space Station Sixty Five – Part 2

You might remember that we reviewed Part 1 of this East Dulwich exhibition of cool and quirky automata back in July (see review).  We enjoyed it so much that this week we returned to see Part 2 of the free show.

Part 2 of Cabaret Mechanical Theatre did not disappoint.  There are more than 20 mechanical artworks on offer, covering a similar range of unconventional subjects.  The miniature circus that took pride of place in Part 1 is back, as is the man in the bath eating spaghetti.  MJ also loved the cat eating flying fish, the mini couple turning to kiss each other and the automated zoo, complete with crocodile, big cats and giraffe.

Go ahead – push the buttons

If you have small children, don’t pass up on the chance to call into this small South London gallery before the exhibition ends on 6 January.  The look of delight on MJ’s face when he pressed each machine’s red button and waited to see what action would ensue was worth the trip in itself.  And if you still need to buy stocking fillers, look no further – you can buy kits to build your own paper automaton, perfect for crafty kids.

Open Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 6pm, until 6 January 2013.
